POI Trends
Increasingly brand owners are seeing the benefits of exposing their brands to consumers who are using GPS units as a way of life in terms of navigation. The POI therefore is fast becoming an increasingly important tool to gps users as they seek goods and services and seek accurate and current information without any fuss.
As primary mapping coverage is increasing, by mid 2008 MapIT will have full coverage of South Africa. Correspondingly GPS device sales are growing exponentially as more and more motorists replace their traditional map book with a GPS device on their dash board, improving travel times and motoring efficiency.
The benefit of the electronic device is that the user no longer needs to be able to read maps, as the GPS does all of that for the motorist, who simply has to follow the prompts. In addition, cell phones with GPS capabilities now also utilise the MapIT software.
POI’s therefore have become increasingly important purely as more and more motorists use GPS’s for navigation and hence a whole new realm of opportunity exists for brand owners to engage with motorists requiring goods and services.
